The Coastline of Ohope Beach has been formed by millions
of years of geological processes.
Off shore the active marine volcano of White Island steams away in a
constant reminder of the awesome volcanic power of the region and the
occasional earth tremor can be felt as the earth crust continues to
progress.
Ohope Beach lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, so called
because of the volcanic nature along the fault lines where the Pacific
and the Australasia plates meet.
We are fortunate to have detailed extended notes on the
Geology of Ohope Beach. You
will find this to be a valuable education resource and of the utmost
interest. We
thank Dr David Kear of Ohope for preparing these valuable notes on Ohope
Beach.

Other geological information can be accessed on our White
Island feature with links to the Geo Net website including web cams
and the latest earthquake report.
