Introduction to Ohope Nature Pages
Introducing some of the birds, marine animals and the trees
of Ohope Beach.
Thanks to Rosemary Tully for contributing most of the information
on these nature pages.
Ohope Beach is renowned world wide for a fantastic backdrop of the beautiful
New Zealand Christmas tree, the coastal Pohutukawa, which blooms crimson
red in the summer.
Ohiwa Harbour and Port Ohope are the breeding grounds for the endangered
Godwit and Dotterel.
The ocean is home to many species of marine mammals and abundant fish
life. Much of the
wild life is endangered. Enjoy
our comprehensive nature pages and also see our extended notes on Bird
Watching by Rosemary Tully, Geology
by Dr David Kear and our conservation
pages.
