Ohope Beach Top 10 Holiday Park and Surf and Sand. Newsletter August 2011
Hello from all of us here at The Ohope Beach 10 Top Holiday Park and
Surf and Sand
We hope that the year is going well for all of you. Ohope has had a
bit of a bad run with rain over the last few months with one downpour
contributing to the death of a young local man in his house at Westend.
The Park was not damaged although it looked like a lake for an hour or
two but by the morning you could not tell we had had any rain at all.
Don't worry we'll endeavor to turn on the sun for your return! Last summer
was great weather-wise and we were gratified by our guests comments about
the new roading that resurfaced big areas of both parks. We are continuing
with this project this year and will finish the rest of A Block over winter.
We are in the process of totally refitting the games room with new machines.
We have also upgraded our wireless supplier and now have far better coverage
across both parks and four new pc's up in the TV room. These machines
will take coins or you can buy a top up card from the office.
Conference
Centre - don't forget that this great facility is available to hire for
special occasions, such as weddings or conferences. It has feature lighting
and backdrop curtains adding to the overall ambiance of the venue. This
facility operates from February through to early December and is very
popular. People enjoy being able to have their functions and then be able
to walk to their accommodation.
Tariffs - our tariffs have not altered this year; for prices please
see our website.
Website - In the last year we have upgraded our website,
this includes a link to our Facebook
page. Thanks to all the campers that have made an effort to go on and
"Like" us. Please use this link to find us if you haven't already
looked us up. Facebook
Park Sites - We have spent several weeks re-leveling a lot of the park.
If you look us up on Facebook you will be able to see some pictures of
this work.
What's Happening - We have the Fijian Rugby Team coming to stay with
us for 7 days as a lead up to the Rugby World Cup at the end of this month.
Rugby fever is coming directly into Ohope which has many of the locals
and staff very excited.
The Ohope Hill stabilization is all but complete and hopefully should
ensure we have no move slips come across the main road.
The Council owned Aquatic Center has been completed after extensive repair
after falling victim to the 'leaky home syndrome' last year.
We have four new businesses in town; "Katmandu" and "Sew
Wot" are proving very popular and "Cotton On "is opening
soon, all on The Strand. The Red Barn has reopened as a bakery just outside
of town.
"Babinka" has moved and is now on the corner of Quay St and
George beside the Information Centre. Helicopter flights will be operating
from Julian's Berryfarm for scenic trips this coming summer season. The
local Iwi are building a very large new Marae that will be open for groups
to visit. This is situated on the way to The Heads in Whakatane. The Whakatane
District Council Arts and Culture unit (Whakatane District Museum Gallery
and Public Library) is currently undergoing a major redevelopment which
will see the Library Museum display and exhibitions come under one roof
at a purpose-designed facility in The Esplanade Mall. This will not open
until March 2012. Pohutukawa Ave now has a cycle lane along it, which
will help make the road a safer place to ride on. Pizza Louis Woodfire
Pizza has opened in his new shop right beside Mobil. He will be selling
fresh baguettes, croissants and of course Pizzas, he is also offering
delivery in Ohope for $4. The walkway over to Otarawaiwere Bay (Shelly
Beach) has been badly damaged and isn't looking likely to be open this
summer which is a shame.
Dune
Rehabilitation-Environment Bay of Plenty in conjunction with the Park
continues to carry out planting along the front of the both Parks. We
have fenced off all the dune area and signs are up asking all guests to
use the tracks only to access the beach and to keep off all the dunes
so as to give them the best chance of recovery. We would encourage all
parents to make their children aware of the fragile dunes environment
and ask them not to play or run across this area. We know it will be hard
to keep them off. We remember as kids spending hours playing in the dunes,
but that was before we started experiencing the endless Climatic Changes
we do now.
Confirmation letters - By now you would have received your confirmation
letter as this was given/sent at the time of booking or re-booking. Please
could you fill out and return these ASAP as it allows us to satisfy as
many guest requirements as possible if we have up to date information.
On a final note we are still getting calls from campers annoyed that their
site has gone. Just to reiterate
1. You must leave a deposit for your site or room at the time of check
out at the VERY LATEST
2. At this same time you will be given a confirmation letter to confirm
what you have just booked.
From the whole team here at Ohope Beach Top 10 Holiday Park and Surf
and Sand, we look forward to seeing you soon.
