Whakatane Coastguard.
The
Eastern Bay of Plenty is a marine playground renowned internationally
as a premium fishing and diving destination.
It would seem that sometimes there are more boats than cars in Ohope
and Whakatane, especially in the summer months when the warm weather
and favourable sea conditions bring out the fish and the boaties.
So many boats need the protection and guidance of a competent coastguard
and the Eastern Bay of Plenty is fortunate to have excellent coastguard
facilities and many enthusiastic volunteers.
Whakatane Coastguard is situated in an optimum location right next to
the Whakatane Bar on Muriwai Drive (down at 'The Heads').
