Diving and fishing White Island on board 'MV Ma Cherie'.

Skipper John "Tuna" Baker has fished & dived White Island and the surrounding areas in the Bay of Plenty for over 40 years and knows all the hot spots. He has dived this area more than anyone else in the world and is often contracted by local and overseas scientists and underwater geologists from universities doing survey work.

John is a NZUA Dive Instructor & Master CLM, a past President and Life Member of the Whakatane Sport Fishing Club.

The Ma Cherie is a 13 metre live aboard displacement boat
with accommodation for up to 6 charter members and 2 crew.

White Island is the favourite dive destination in the Bay of Plenty region. White Island is some 50 kilometres off shore from Whakatane and lies 8km west of the White Island trench which reaches depths of up to 1219 metres. This fascinating place is brushed by the warm waters of an offshore current and offers exciting dives from pinnacles with 150 metre drop offs to cruisy reef dives.
