The Ōtarawairere Bay to Ōhope section of the Ngā Tapuwae o Toi Walkway will remain closed until late in the week of 3 October 2016. 

The track leading from the bay to the headland was damaged by a major slip earlier in September, while remedial work to the track bench has been completed and a temporary barrier put in place, the ground is very wet and requires metalling to make it usable. 

The Whakatane District Council aims to have work on the affected area done by Thursday 6 October, allowing the track section to be reopened ahead of the weekend of 8–9 October.
